Solid Wood
Our furniture is crafted primarily from solid oak and birch — two wood species with deep roots in Nordic furniture tradition. The oak and birch we use come from forests in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, where responsible forestry is a given. We always use wood of the highest quality, graded A/A. Before production, we carefully sort and color-match each piece of wood to ensure that every piece of furniture has a harmonious appearance. Because we always work with solid wood, our furniture can be maintained and repaired even after many years of use. This gives each piece a long life — both functionally and aesthetically.
Birch
Birch is the wood traditionally used in furniture making. Its light, beautiful appearance has become synonymous with 'Scandinavian blond.' The birch used in G.A.D’s furniture comes from Finland, as the quality we require is difficult to find within Sweden.
Oak
The hard and heavy oak is a beautiful wood for furniture. It is highly durable and ages with grace. Oak treated with linseed oil also has a wonderfully rich scent. The oak used in G.A.D’s furniture comes from Europe, as the quality we require is difficult to find within Sweden.
Product care
Solid wood carries the expression of nature — it moves, it breathes, it tells a story. Light will change its colour, and air will affect its form. When your furniture first arrives, the wood surface has already been treated and is ready for use — but it takes a few weeks for the oil finish to fully cure. During this time, it is especially important to protect the surface from liquids and stains. Do not leave damp items on tables or benches, and always use coasters for glasses and protective mats for hot dishes.
Soaped furniture should instead be saturated with natural soap. Use a mild soap solution and work it into the wood along the grain with a sponge or cloth. Allow it to dry, and lightly sand with very fine sandpaper if the surface feels rough. The more you use and care for soaped surfaces, the more beautiful and durable they become — the patina itself becomes a reward.
Protect your furniture from direct sunlight, which can cause uneven fading, and remember: small marks, scratches, or colour variations are not flaws — they are signs of life and can easily be adjusted with light sanding and re-treatment.
